Sara M Lugard Counselling

The pressures of life in the 21st century are such that it’s never been more important than now to prioritise our mental health and do all we can to ensure that we remain resilient in the face of seemingly overwhelming challenges.

Depression and anxiety are both very common mental health conditions and they can both be very debilitating if they go untreated.

The two conditions are distinct from each other, with depression characterised by a lingering feeling of sadness and hopelessness, and anxiety characterised by feelings of significant fear, nervousness and worry… but the good news is that both can be helped successfully through counselling and therapy sessions.

I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, coming to me with a diverse range of problems. As a fully-qualified counsellor I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their code of ethics.

What Are The Symptoms of Depression?

It’s normal and natural to feel sad or hopeless occasionally, especially when faced with difficult or painful situations. However, if these feelings of sadness persist for longer than two weeks it can be indicative of a more chronic depressive state.

Other symptoms of depression include chronic fatigue, insomnia, a lack of energy, anger, restlessness, pessimism, irritability, difficulty concentrating, suicide ideation, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, changes in appetite and weight loss or gain.

What Are The Symptoms of Anxiety?

Anxiety is a very normal human emotion which we all experience it at some point in our lives. However, if your anxiety is persistent or extreme and prolonged, it is possible that you have some kind of anxiety disorder.

Symptoms of the condition include muscle tension, problems with sleep, brain fog, nausea, headaches, gastrointestinal problems, irritability, a feeling of being on edge, physical restlessness, fatigue and rumination, where you experience a persistently dark or negative thought cycle that is hard to control. This latter symptom can also be experienced with depression, as well.

Gestalt Therapy in Winchester, Chandlers Ford, Romsey & Eastleigh

There are many different forms of talking therapy that can be beneficial for both anxiety and depression. My approach, Humanistic Gestalt therapy may be particularly beneficial as it allows me to tailor the sessions to effectively work with the issues you are dealing with.

Humanistic Gestalt therapy helps you to focus on the present moment and explore it more fully, looking at how your past events impact you in the present and how they may influence your emotions right now.

I offer counselling sessions for both anxiety and depression to adults and young people over the age of 18, either in person, online or over the phone. I’m based in the Winchester area, but can provide remote counselling for anyone anywhere in the UK.

If you are currently having difficulties in any area of your life and feel as though you could benefit from some support, get in touch with me today to see how I may be able to help.
