Counselling For Grief & Loss

Counselling and therapy for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

As much as we all understand that death is a part of life, when we’re actually confronted with the reality of losing a loved one, it can be incredibly difficult to come to terms with. We can also experience grief for many other things such as the end or a relationship, at retirement, moving from the family home and when our children leave home.

The feelings of loss and grief can be overwhelming and it’s important to remember that it’s normal to experience a wide range of emotions during this difficult time, everything from anxiety and guilt to anger, loneliness and sadness.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve, it hits us all in different ways, so whatever you maybe feeling now, is completely valid.

Speaking to friends and family can be a healthy and effective way of dealing with bereavement. However, those same friends and family members may also have been effected by the loss. You may feel that talking to them would upset them further or that they just don't feel the way you do. It may be more helpful to speak to someone you don’t know, someone independent and with experience of helping people deal with loss.

In our sessions I will offer you a space to work through your valid emotions at your own pace. Together we will gently work through the stages of grief, denial, bargaining, anger, depression and acceptance, helping you to understand what has happened and find a way forward that is right for you.

Making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I could help you.

How can Grief Counselling Help?

Knowing what the five stages of grief are can be useful, but it’s important to remember that dealing with loss will not be a linear or straightforward process.

You may experience these different stages at different times and they may not take place in order. You may also not experience all of them and you may also find that you have different experiences when dealing with different bereavements.

Every grief journey is unique and it can be very isolating, but counselling can give you a safe and supportive space, free from judgement, where you can express your pain and normalise it. As your therapist, I will help you gain a deeper understanding of these emotions and help you reduce any distress you might be feeling.

I offer counselling sessions for grief, loss and bereavement to adults and young people over 18, either in person, online or over the phone. I’m based in the Winchester area but can provide remote counselling anywhere in the UK.

Get in touch

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial 30 minute appointment free of charge. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.

I work from private offices located in Chandlers Ford, and see clients from there and surrounding areas, Winchester, Romsey, Eastleigh and Southampton.

In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions via Zoom. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
